Crowdfunding was originally designed to support charitable causes and invest in new business ventures, not to indulge couples in their extravagant wedding fantasies. These platforms did not include indulging brides in their quest for a Cinderella gown. 

In recent years, online honeymoon registries have gained acceptance, though they were not as common before. Essentially, these registries are a form of crowdfunding, where friends and family can contribute to the couple's honeymoon as a thoughtful wedding gift. It offers a more tasteful alternative to directly asking for cash as a gift. While articles discuss financing weddings and crowdfunding honeymoons, it's evident that crowdfunding was not initially intended as a regular wedding finance tool.

I've become acquainted with the rising popularity of online wedding invitations and RSVPs. This modern approach is becoming increasingly common among couples planning their big day. Moreover, the acceptance of "non-traditional" wedding gifts, like honeymoon registries and even support for in vitro fertilization, shows a growing openness to diverse and meaningful ways of celebrating love and starting a new chapter in life. 

While online wedding invitations and non-traditional gift registries are becoming more common, crossing the line into crowdfunding for the actual wedding is where etiquette and sensibility go out the window.

If a couple cannot finance their dream wedding, they should cut things back to a more affordable level or perhaps elope.
