The Guinness Book of World Records lists her as the bestselling novelist of all time. Additionally, as per the survey, she is outsold only by the Bible and Shakespeare.

The Storyline

The book revolves around 10 strangers who receive an invitation to spend some time on an isolated island which is cut off from the world. Each person is invited for a different purpose but they all share one thing in common, a haunting past.

Their host is unknown to anyone. Things take an ugly turn as one by one the strangers begin to die. The sequence and the events of the deaths are similar to a nursery rhyme that is placed in each one's room. Who is the killer?

My Review

When I first picked the book up, I was a little skeptical. I felt maybe it was overhyped and overrated. However, I was wrong. The writing style of the author is one of a kind. Throughout the book, I kept coming up with my own theories as to who the killer could've been. The end was shocking and unexpected.

The book begins slowly as the author introduces each and every character as they travel to Soldier Island. Once there, the story begins to pick its pace and there is no turning back. With each passing page, the story just keeps getting interesting and the suspense just goes on building. The flow of the story is wonderful. There are parts where you just sit up and gasp and parts where something unexpected event occurs.

The second half of the book is quite tense and a little scary. It is quite difficult to keep the book down once the story picks up the pace. Throughout the book, the author presents a compelling narration and maintains the suspense. Moreover, the book is extremely inspirational to any budding authors who wish to write a crime, mystery, thriller novel.

Although the book was great, I found the language a bit difficult for a common person. It takes time to get used to the language used due to its complexity. The reason where the murderer reveals her/his reasons to commit the crime isn't satisfactory enough and I felt the end could've been stronger.

The book really motivates the reader to check out other books of the author. I surely look forward to reading some more of Agatha Christies novels. Even if you haven't figured it out yet, I am surely 100% recommending this book to every one of my readers. However, I am not sure if this book is suitable for children and teens based on violent content and storyline.

  1. I love this book. One of Agatha's finest. It's a whodunit so I dont see why teenagers shouldnt read them though.

    1. Of course, parents and guardians might want to consider the individual maturity level of the teenager and the content of the specific book, as some of Christie's works might contain elements that could be considered more suitable for older teens.
